PDF Caveats

1. Older Adobe PDF software has a bug which may result in clipping or elimination of parts of objects. These older files will look fine when rasterized for small files, but when sized for large files, as is needed for printing, parts can wind up missing. If your Adobe PDF software is more than a few years old, please try to upload in some other format, if you can. If you can't, please check your uploaded file carefully to make sure everything is there.

2. Unlike most other file types, the size (in megabytes) of a PDF file does not necessarily increase with higher resolution. For example, a 1,000 megapixel file might not require any more disk space than a 10 megapixel file. (In most cases, anything over 100 megapixels is overkill.) As a result, it is fairly easy to inadvertently create a PDF file that will overflow our memory during the process of converting it to a raster (e.g., TIF) file (which we must do). Moreover, the conversion time could be hours, rather than seconds or minutes.

If your PDF file is larger than 15,000 pixels in either direction, our system will reject it.
